Judge remains AL vote leader; Yanks need help

CHICAGO -- Aaron Judge is a virtual lock to be patrolling the outfield for the American League during the All-Star Game presented by Mastercard, to be played on July 11 at Marlins Park in Miami, but his Yankees teammates Starlin Castro, Matt Holliday and Gary Sanchez are among those who need your help to punch tickets to the Midsummer Classic.
"That'd be exciting, if all of us got that shot," Judge said. "I think a couple of the other guys in this clubhouse might get that opportunity as well. It'd be a good group. I'm excited."
Judge remains the top overall vote-getter in the AL, having appeared on 3,442,597 ballots according to results released on Monday by Major League Baseball. That total is second only to the Nationals' Bryce Harper (3,617,444) in all of baseball.

Leading the AL in all three Triple Crown categories entering play Monday, batting .332 with 26 homers and 59 RBIs, Judge said that he still has not decided if he will participate in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby, even though many of his teammates have said that they would love to watch him take hacks on that stage.
"I haven't even thought about it. I've got a job to do on the field," Judge said. "The last thing on my mind is worrying about a Home Run Derby. That's kind of on the back burner to what we've got to do on the field with the Yankees right now."
Castro (1,737,446) held a lead over all AL second basemen at the first checkpoint but was overtaken by Jose Altuve (2,925,041) in the second week, and is still trying to make up that ground. Castro's .315 average ranks seventh in the AL, his 92 hits are tied for second in the circuit and his 52 runs are tied for fourth.

Holliday (1,107,847) has slipped to fourth in the voting for AL designated hitter, though he remains within striking distance of leader Nelson Cruz (1,366,962) of the Mariners. Holliday has reached the 15-homer plateau for the 12th time in his 14 Major League seasons, and is also pursuing the Rays' Corey Dickerson (1,267,234) and the Indians' Edwin Encarnación (1,186,483).
Sanchez (1,337,651) has given Salvador Perez of the Royals (2,150,223) a respectable race among AL catchers despite missing most of the season's first month due to injury. Sanchez is batting .342 with nine homers and 25 RBIs in June and holds a slight lead over former teammate Brian McCann (1,330,042) of the Astros.

Other Yankees with notable showings are Didi Gregorius (1,069,822, third among AL shortstops) and Brett Gardner (889,616, ninth among AL outfielders).

The Esurance All-Star Selection Show will take place on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
