Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch:Franchy Cordero (Padres' No. 12), El Paso vs. Iowa (9:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Playing in his second game for Triple-A El Paso since being optioned by the Padres, Cordero connected on a pair of home runs in a 4-for-6 performance to help power the Chihuahuas past Omaha, 14-6, on Monday. He finished with four RBIs and three runs scored. Despite his scuffles over several stints with the Padres this season, the 22-year-old outfielder continues to put up strong numbers in Triple-A, with a .321 average and 12 home runs in 58 games.

Duel of the day: Lucas Giolito (White Sox No. 7) vs. Julian Merryweather (Indians' No. 13), Charlotte vs. Columbus (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Giolito, No. 61 on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 Prospects list, looked as though he may be back on track when he fired seven scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts on July 8. Since then, however, the 23-year-old righty has allowed eight earned runs in 6 2/3 frames over his last two starts for Triple-A Charlotte. Giolito completed just 1 2/3 innings, giving up five earned runs on five hits and three walks, in his most recent turn, his shortest outing this season.

Merryweather has also had issues working deep into games lately, with the right-hander logging a combined 11 1/3 innings over his last three starts for Columbus. But the 25-year-old righty has still been plenty effective in that span, permitting two earned runs on nine hits while striking out 14. Overall, Merryweather owns a 3.63 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP and 92-to-18 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 91 2/3 innings (17 starts) this season between the Double- and Triple-A levels.
