After impressing with a scoreless outing in the Spring Breakout for the Angels this year, Dylan Jordan's strikeout stuff is turning some heads at Single-A.
Jordan (LAA No. 10 prospect) racked up 10 K’s with 17 whiffs in five scoreless innings for Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday, earning the win in an 11-2 victory over Ontario at ONT Field. The 10 punchouts matched a career-high for Jordan, who also hit double-digits on May 28.
Jordan allowed just one hit in Thursday’s gem, though he had to work around a bit of trouble because of four walks. After a 1-2-3 first inning, the 20-year-old righty issued two walks in the second but induced a popout to escape the jam.
He had to work hard again in the fourth after a leadoff walk and a single put two on with nobody out. But Jordan bore down, working a strikeout and a key double play thereafter. He issued one more walk in the fifth but kept the runner at first base.
In total, Jordan threw 77 pitches with 47 strikes. The effort lowered his season ERA to 3.75 across 12 starts, with a noteworthy 80 strikeouts in 57 2/3 innings. That number leads both the California League and the Angels organization. Opponents are hitting just .204 against him.
If Jordan can cut down on free passes, the 2024 fifth-rounder has stuff that's looking quite good -- including a fastball that pushed 98 mph in the spring.
