TEMPE, Ariz. -- Eight Angels pitchers combined to no-hit a Mariners split squad on Friday night, leading the Halos to a 4-0 win in the lone night game of the spring at Tempe Diablo Stadium.
With only two regular position players, Leonys Martin and Jean Segura, in their lineup, the Mariners mustered only two baserunners; Segura reached on catcher's interference in the fourth and Zach Shank walked in the sixth.
Right-hander Bud Norris started for the Angels and was followed by José Álvarez, Cam Bedrosian, Andrew Bailey, Austin Adams, Drew Gagnon, Justin Anderson and Abel De Los Santos.

Three Angels defenders -- first baseman C.J. Cron, right fielder Shane Robinson and third baseman Sherman Johnson -- made diving plays in the ninth to preserve the no-hitter.
"I think what makes us feel good is the way our guys executed pitches, and obviously the defense in the ninth inning was incredible," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "Sometimes you can't control the results, but you control the process, and tonight all our guys that came in, the guys that are going to be important to us, made their pitches, and that was good to see."
It was the second no-hitter of the spring but first in the Cactus League. Three Yankees pitchers accomplished the feat against the Tigers on March 17 in Grapefruit League play. The last Angels' spring no-hitter came against the Giants on March 16, 1996.

Danny Espinosa hit a two-run double off Mariners left-hander Aríel Miranda to open the scoring in the second inning. Kole Calhoun and Mike Trout added back-to-back RBI doubles in the third inning to put the Angels ahead, 4-0.
Miranda allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts over four innings in his fifth start of the spring. He will likely open the season in Seattle's bullpen.
Norris, who struck out two over two perfect innings, was making his second Cactus League start, though the length of his outing suggests that the Angels may be looking at him as a reliever. Norris, who is in camp as a non-roster invitee, has recorded a 3.48 ERA this spring and has not allowed a run in his last two appearances.
