ST. PETERSBURG -- Rays left-hander Anthony Banda will have Tommy John surgery, according to a report from the Tampa Bay Times.
The Rays have not confirmed the report.
The surgery would likely keep the left-hander from pitching in 2019.
Banda, ranked as the Rays' No. 15 prospect, was the marquee prospect of the spring trade that sent Steven Souza Jr. to the D-backs.
Banda went 1-0 with a 3.68 ERA in three appearances for the Rays, and he went 4-3 with a 3.64 ERA in eight appearances for Triple-A Durham. He last pitched in a game on Thursday.
Banda joins other Rays pitching prospects to have Tommy John surgery. Brent Honeywell Jr. and José De León each had the surgery in the spring.
