PITTSBURGH -- The Brewers will be without veteran right-hander Brandon Woodruff until at least September.
The Brewers transferred the two-time All-Star from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL as part of a series of roster moves made before Sunday’s game against the Pirates at PNC Park.
Sidelined by right shoulder inflammation, Woodruff is now not eligible to be activated until Sept. 5. It is the second IL stint this season for Woodruff, who is 2-2 with a 2.98 ERA in nine starts.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy didn’t have further information on Woodruff but indicated the team would know more on Friday when the regular season resumes following the All-Star break.
The Brewers have 11 pitchers on the IL yet entered Sunday with a six-game lead in the National League Central. Ace Jacob Misiorowski was scratched from his scheduled start due to arm fatigue and likely won’t pitch again until July 20 against the Mets, as he receives extended rest.
In other moves, infielder Braden Shewmake was acquired from the Astros for cash considerations, while infielder/outfielder Greg Jones was designated for assignment and right-hander Coleman Crow was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Nashville.
Shewmake was in the starting lineup at third base on Sunday. He gives the Brewers a left-handed hitter who can also play second base and shortstop. The 28-year-old was hitting .256 with three home runs for the Astros in 30 games.
Jones has played in 12 games for the Brewers this season, going 2-for-23 (.087).
