Here are the Braves' Top 10 homers of 2010s

ATLANTA -- Jason Heyward started this decade with a bang and Ronald Acuña Jr. ended it by nearly becoming the third Major Leaguer 21 or younger to hit 40 home runs in a season.

Whether in the regular season or postseason, the Braves spent this past decade producing a number of memorable home runs. Here are the top 10:

1. Welcome to The Show
Date: April 5, 2010

The first of the 1,576 home runs the Braves hit this decade still seems to be the most memorable. Heyward energized the Opening Day crowd when he homered with the first swing of his career. His three-run homer off Carlos Zambrano highlighted a 15-6 win over the Cubs.

2. Chipper’s final home run
Date: Sept. 2, 2012

The last of Chipper Jones’ 468 career home runs ended a memorable 8-7 comeback win over the Phillies. Jones’ three-run, walk-off homer off Jonathan Papelbon capped a five-run ninth that pushed the Braves closer toward what was Jones’ final trip into the postseason.

3. Acuña’s slam
Date: Oct. 7, 2018

After Walker Buehler intentionally walked Charlie Culberson with two outs and then walked Sean Newcomb to load the bases in Game 3 of the National League Division Series, Acuña Jr. made the Dodgers hurler pay when he drilled a grand slam into the left field seats. Acuña, who was 20 at the time, became the youngest player in postseason history to hit a grand slam.

4. Conrad comeback
Date: May 20, 2010

Before his defensive woes lowlighted the 2010 NLDS, Brooks Conrad became a fan favorite in Atlanta. The journeyman became town hero when he hit a grand slam off Arthur Rhodes to cap a seven-run ninth-inning that gave the Braves a 10-9 win over the Reds at Turner Field.

5. Ankiel sends one toward The Bay
Date: Oct. 8, 2010

Rick Ankiel brief stint with the Braves was highlighted by the solo homer that proved decisive in the Braves’ 5-4 comeback win over the Giants in Game 2 of the 2010 NLDS. Ankiel’s blast off Ramon Ramirez sailed over AT&T Park’s right field wall and gave Hall of Fame manager Bobby Cox a chance to celebrate what would be his last postseason win.

6. Markakis ignites 2018
Date: March 29, 2018

Nick Markakis provided an early glimpse of how special the 2018 season would be for him and the city of Atlanta. Markakis’ three-run walk-off homer gave the Braves a 8-5 Opening Day win over the Phillies, who had led 5-0 in the sixth. The victory propelled Atlanta to an unexpected division title and helped build the credentials that earned Markakis his first career All-Star selection.

7. Freeman’s redemption
Date: Sept. 25, 2012

One year after concluding the 2011 collapse with a season-ending groundout, Freddie Freeman hit a two-run walk-off homer that sealed a 4-3 win over the Marlins and clinched a postseason berth for the Braves.

8. Hinske’s moment
Date: Oct. 10, 2010

Some still debate whether Turner Field was louder when Heyward opened his career with a homer or when Eric Hinske gave the Braves a lead in the eighth inning of Game 3 of the 2010 NLDS. Hinke’s two-run shot off Sergio Romo created a 3-2 lead that was squandered when Conrad’s second error of the day allowed the Giants to cap their decisive two-run ninth.

9. Gattis sends one into orbit
Date: Sept. 8, 2013

The loudest and most impressive home run Evan Gattis hit during his 2013 rookie season was a solo shot off Cole Hamels during the second inning of a 3-2 loss to the Phillies. Gattis’ sailed over Citizens Bank Park’s center field wall and landed near a flag pole on the center-field concourse. Unfortunately, the blast was hit two years before Statcast began tracking this data. ESPN’s Home Run Tracker estimated it traveled 487 ft.

10. Chipper’s return
Date: April 10, 2012

Adding to the countless memories of his Hall of Fame career, Jones homered in his second plate appearance of his final season. The legendary first baseman missed the season’s first four games while recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery. His two-run homer off Kyle Weiland in the third inning brought tears to the eyes of his parents who were in attendance for this memorable moment.
