Jett Williams’ first chance at Triple-A Nashville as part of the Brewers’ organization didn’t get off to the start he may have hoped for. However, he’s begun to find his groove, and he punctuated it in a big way Wednesday.
Williams, Milwaukee’s No. 3 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 45 overall, punched a walk-off, three-run home run to the opposite field for a 7-4 win over Norfolk at First Horizon Park. It was his third home run of the season and his fifth straight game with a knock.
Nashville tied the game at 4 in the bottom of the ninth inning thanks to a single from Jacob Hurtubise and an RBI double from Jeferson Quero. Then, with two outs, Norfolk opted to intentionally walk Luis Lara to get to Williams.
The right-handed-hitting Williams battled left-hander Josh Walker to a full count before fouling off an inside curveball. Then he got a 93.3 mph sinker up in the zone and didn’t miss. Williams’ dinger left the park at 100.1 mph, just clearing the right-field wall at 334 feet.
The walk-off was Williams’ only hit of the game, bringing his season slash line to .222/.328/.333. He’s flashed his athleticism and versatility often, though, having stolen five bases and playing third base, shortstop and center field. That’s part of what made him so attractive to Milwaukee as a headlining piece in this offseason’s Freddy Peralta trade with the Mets.
