SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- San Francisco's Buster Posey delivered a third-inning, two-run single off Kansas City's Danny Duffy, soon to be his World Baseball Classic batterymate on the USA team, before the Royals ultimately rallied for a 4-3 victory Sunday.
Duffy went three innings and gave up four hits and two runs while striking out three. He threw 43 pitches, 30 for strikes.
Giants starter Madison Bumgarner worked three innings, a spring high for a Giants pitcher. He yielded his only run in the second inning, when Kansas City opened the scoring on Paulo Orlando's double and Jorge Bonifacio's RBI single.

Posey delivered his two-out, go-ahead hit off Duffy to send home Joe Panik and Gordon Beckham, who singled back-to-back to open the Giants' third.
"I thought Duffy threw really well," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "He got a pitch up to Posey and that was the only bad pitch he made."

Mac Williamson's fourth-inning homer extended the Giants' lead to 3-1. The Royals steadily edged even, as doubles by Peter O'Brien and Adalberto Mondesi off Cory Gearrin generated a seventh-inning run before Hunter Dozier's eighth-inning homer off Roberto Gomez tied the score.
"That was really an impressive homer by Dozier," Yost said. "He crushed that."

Zane Evans' fielder's-choice grounder scored Bubba Starling and broke the tie in the ninth against Albert Suárez. The Giants absorbed their eighth consecutive defeat.
"I thought today was a crisp game, but the bullpen got nicked at the end," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.
