Spangenberg grateful for mother's sacrifices

In Cory Spangenberg's eyes, his path to the Major Leagues wouldn't have been possible without his mother, Lynne.
"She did everything," said the Padres infielder. "Taking me to tournaments, taking me to practices -- she and my dad sacrificed so much of their time and money and effort into letting me pursue my dream."

Lynne is a guidance counselor at Abington Heights High School (Pa.), which Cory attended. A particularly fond memory the two share came in the 2009 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association high school state title game when Cory's home run proved decisive. Part of the postgame celebration is pictured above.
