Pedro Ramírez wasn’t known for his power as the Cubs’ No. 8 prospect. Then he starred in Spring Training with a pair of home runs and a 1.065 OPS. Now, he’s only building on the surge.

Ramírez already tied his career-high in a single season with his eighth home run for Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, while he also has a hit in eight of his last 10 games. Iowa beat St. Paul, 11-4, at CHS Field.

A switch-hitter batting left, Ramírez saw a first-pitch fastball in the heart of the zone and absolutely hammered it to right field. The two-run shot -- 382 feet at 108.5 mph -- tied the game at three apiece in the third inning.

Though the homer was Ramírez’s lone hit Wednesday, he reached on a fielder’s choice in the sixth, stole second base and scored on a Jonathon Long single. He also walked in the second.

Ramírez, 22, has primarily played third base this season with second base also mixed in. The big-league Cubs may soon have decisions to make about the Venezuela native if his bat keeps this up, as his 1.005 OPS is second among qualified batters in the International League this season.
