LeMahieu, Blackmon named June's top players

After putting on an incredible show at the plate over the past several weeks, Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu and Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon were named the American League and National League Players of the Month for June on Wednesday.

It's the first time LeMahieu, who also earned the AL Player of the Week Award presented by W.B. Mason on Monday, has received Player of the Month honors. Blackmon, meanwhile, previously won for May 2017.

While LeMahieu, 30, has been a consistent force for the Yankees all season, he took his game to another level in June, hitting safely in all but three of his 25 games during the month. In total, he slashed .395/.434/.658 with six homers, two triples, eight doubles, 29 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He becomes the first Yank to be named AL Player of the Month since Didi Gregorius last April.

Blackmon, 33, actually spent the first week of June on the injured list but made up for lost time once he returned on June 8, racking up 40 hits in 97 at-bats (.412) over 22 games. Nearly half (19) of those hits went for extra bases, including 10 home runs. From June 13-15, he became the first player since Rafael Furcal in 2007 to collect at least four hits in three straight games. Nolan Arenado was the last Rockies player before Blackmon to win the NL Player of the Month Award, doing so for July 2017.

Both LeMahieu and Blackmon rank among the Major League batting leaders, with LeMahieu pacing the AL at .341 and Blackmon ranking third in the NL at .336. The former teammates won back-to-back NL batting titles with Colorado in 2016 (LeMahieu) and '17 (Blackmon).
