How is Druw Jones handling the pressure of being the top-rated 2022 Draft prospect so far this spring?

Pretty well, apparently.

MLB Pipeline’s No. 1 Draft prospect responded to “overrated” chants Wednesday night by simply letting his talent show, connecting for an impressive homer off Georgia State commit Brady Jones that quieted the crowd and had social media buzzing.

That kind of attention is becoming standard for Jones, the son of former Braves star Andruw Jones who has scouts flooding the Georgia prep circuit ahead of this July’s Draft. The talented Wesleyan senior is seen as a potential five-tool player like his father, who earned five All-Star nods and 10 Gold Gloves over 17 big league seasons. The elder Jones expressed support after his son’s game-tying homer, which helped Wesleyan to a 6-1 win over Decatur.

With four months until the Draft, Jones leads a talented crop of high school hitters expected to jockey for the top overall pick, with Georgia prep infielder Termarr Johnson and Florida prep outfielder Elijah Green slotted behind him in Pipeline’s rankings. The Orioles own the No. 1 pick this year, while the D-backs pick second and the Rangers third. The last time a high school position player went first overall was in 2017, when the Twins selected Royce Lewis out of the California prep ranks.
