Gavin Fien has been tearing up Single-A in June.
The Nationals’ No. 8 prospect went yard twice on Sunday, the first multi-homer game of his young career, to power Fredericksburg to a 3-0 win over Salem. Fien finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBIs on the pair of solo shots, extending a four-game hitting streak. He has a hit in 13 of 15 games this month, including multiple hits in six games.
Fien wasted no time Sunday, going deep to left field to lead off the bottom of the first inning. The 19-year-old shortstop then did it again to begin the seventh, providing some insurance on a dominant day for the Fredericksburg pitching staff.
The 12th overall pick in the 2025 Draft by the Rangers, Fien made his way to the Washington organization in the MacKenzie Gore trade this offseason. After hitting .164 through May, he’s raised that average by 84(!) points in June. Fien is now working on a .248/.356/.432 including five homers this season.
Elsewhere on the farm Sunday, Eli Willits (WSH No. 1, MLB Pipeline’s No. 4 overall) mashed his fifth homer with High-A Wilmington in just 10 games, leading the Blue Rocks to a 5-1 win. The No. 1 overall pick in last year’s Draft has dominated with a .930 OPS across two levels in his first full Minor League season.
