HOUSTON -- George Klassen allowed one hit over seven scoreless innings to earn his first career road win as the Angels defeated the Astros, 3-1, on Tuesday night at Daikin Park.
Making his fifth career start, Klassen walked Isaac Paredes and allowed a single to Jose Altuve in the first before striking out Daulton Varsho to end the frame. The rookie right-hander settled down from there, retiring 19 of the final 21 batters he faced.
The Angels' No. 12 prospect struck out a career-high seven and walked three. He has won two straight starts after going 0-1 in his first three outings.
Klassen became the first Angels’ rookie to go seven innings and allow one hit or fewer since Reid Detmers, who threw a no-hitter on May 10, 2022 against the Rays.
The rookie right-hander earned his first career win in his last start against the Rangers on Wednesday yielding two runs over six innings. He has surrendered two runs or fewer in four of his five starts.
The Angels were able to put two-out rallies together against Astros’ pitching in three straight innings.
Nolan Schanuel had an RBI single with two outs in the third, Josh Lowe hit his 10th home run of the season in the fourth, a solo shot to the Crawford Boxes in left field with two outs and Zach Neto hit an RBI double with two outs in the fifth to increase the lead to 3-0.
Cam Smith hit a solo home run in the eighth for the Astros, who have lost three straight.
