Stanton all in for Team USA in WBC 2017

MIAMI -- Team USA is adding some more power to its already potent lineup.
Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton announced on social media on Tuesday night that he will play for the United States in the World Baseball Classic.

Via his Twitter account, Stanton wrote: "Boom, I'm coming back to Team USA. World Baseball Classic let's go!!!!"

Stanton will join Miami center fielder Christian Yelich, who previously was confirmed to play in the prestigious global tournament.
This will be the second time the 27-year-old Stanton will represent the United States. He was on the 2013 Team USA squad.
Team USA will be playing at Marlins Park in Miami in Pool 3, which is set for March 9-13.
One of the most feared hitters in the game, Stanton is the Marlins' all-time home run leader (208) since he broke in as a 20-year-old in 2010.

Stanton, however, is coming off a disappointing 2016, by his standards. In 119 games, he had career lows in batting average (.240), on-base (.326) and slugging percentage (.489).
Still, the 6-foot-6, 250-pounder belted 27 home runs and drove in 74 runs. Stanton's season was marred by a Grade 3 left groin strain in August.

Also in 2016, Stanton flexed his might at the Home Run Derby at Petco Park in San Diego. The three-time All-Star blasted a Derby-record 61 home runs, claiming the first title by a Marlins player.
Fully healthy, Stanton is looking for a bounce-back season in 2017.
Miami now has three players confirmed to participate in the World Baseball Classic -- Stanton, Yelich and third baseman Martín Prado, who will play for Venezuela.
