Roberts expecting Ryu to start for NL in ASG

DENVER -- Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who will manage the National League team in the 2019 All-Star Game at Progressive Field in Cleveland, said after Sunday's 10-5 win over the Rockies at Coors Field that he will "expect" Dodgers left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu to be the NL's starting pitcher, though that is not official.

2019 All-Star Game, presented by Mastercard: July 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX

Following multiple seasons that were either missed or cut short due to injury, a healthy Ryu has had a spectacular first half this year, posting a 1.83 ERA and 0.90 WHIP, striking out 94 and walking only seven over 16 starts.

"It's definitely an honor and a privilege [to be selected as an All-Star]," Ryu said through an interpreter. "There definitely have been ups and downs, including my injuries, and having a good first half like I had, it resulted in my first All-Star Game. I'm going to enjoy it, but also prepare as best I can and hopefully do a good job there."

Ryu is joined by fellow Dodgers starters Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler, who were also announced as All-Stars on Sunday.

"These guys had great halves," Roberts said. "They're our top three pitchers. It's great for baseball, and it's going to be fun to get them into the game."

The only position player who will represent the Dodgers at this year's Midsummer Classic is Cody Bellinger, who was elected as a starting outfielder by the fans. Bellinger is the early front-runner for the NL MVP Award, hitting .346/.442/.695 with 27 home runs and eight steals.
