BOSTON -- After being no-hit by Sean Manaea in Oakland on April 20, the Red Sox fared better in their rematch against the talented left-hander on Monday night.
J.D. Martinez smacked a single up the middle to open the second inning, ensuring that the Red Sox wouldn't be on the wrong side of history again.
Mookie Betts provided a second hit for Boston -- a single up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the third.
The Athletics took a 1-0 lead on a homer by Matt Joyce in the top of the third. The Red Sox took the lead in the bottom of the inning on an infield RBI hit by Andrew Benintendi and an RBI single to right by Hanley Ramirez.
Manaea was the author of the first no-hitter thrown against the Red Sox since Chris Bosio at Seattle's Kingdome back on April 22, 1993.
