Holliday's Players' Weekend bat features ... his dog Coconut!

BALTIMORE -- Coconut Holliday has become well known in Baltimore. The 2-year-old Bernedoodle owned by Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday and Holliday's wife, Chloe, is practically a celebrity now in these parts.

"He's way more famous than I am," Holliday said. "When I walk around Baltimore, people ask me, 'How's Coconut?' I think that's pretty funny."

Coconut has been a frequent guest at Camden Yards' Bark at the Park Nights. He got his own bobblehead alongside Jackson on April 11, the same night he accompanied Chloe for a ceremonial first pitch. Coconut even received his honorary pet therapy certification at Baltimore's MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital in June.

Now, Coconut is being honored during MLB's Players' Weekend.

Players are allowed to use customized bats and gear this weekend, and Holliday received a shipment of four bats at Camden Yards on Friday afternoon prior to the Orioles' series opener vs. the Rays. There was a patriotic American flag bat, an orange-and-black bat featuring Holliday's name and number and an orange popsicle bat.

And, of course, there was the one Holliday planned to use in-game: a bat featuring a drawing of Coconut. It also reads "COCONUT" in all caps on the other side.

Holliday will hope his Coconut-themed bat allows him to have as much success against Tampa Bay as he did last weekend. The 22-year-old went 5-for-18 with two doubles, three RBIs, a walk and three runs scored as the Orioles took three of four games at Tropicana Field. Now, the American League East rivals are meeting again for a three-game set at Camden Yards.
