After nearly 2,000 attempts, the Oswalt MVP '05 perfecto has been pitched!

"It's amazing," Jay Lucarelli, who drank two 20-ounce Red Bulls on Sunday, messaged me. "My hands are still shaky after the final out. They need to be iced for sure. I need a Thai massage."

What started as an innocent way to introduce himself to Tik-Tok streaming about a week ago, Jay Lucarelli's ridiculous pursuit to throw a perfect game in MVP 2005 with Roy Oswalt, and only Roy Oswalt, suddenly became his only goal in life. Articles detailing his mission, thousands of new followers, hundreds watching every pitch, even Oswalt himself weighing in, made the pressure to do it that much more urgent.

And finally, late on Sunday night, after a week and 1,993 attempts, the Ohio native did it. Oswalt got the final out against pinch-hitter Doug Mirabelli, the same Mirabelli who heartbreakingly broke up the perfecto with two outs in the ninth a few days prior. Mirabelli got a hold of one again, but Oswalt, of course, was the one who protected his, and Lucarelli's, spot in video game perfection history. Here's the full top of the ninth below:

Check out Lucarelli's full backstory here for more details, including his near-misses because of ravioli spills and the rest of his family thinking he's "out of his mind." What's next? Judging from his Tik-Tok, it could be a perfect 162-0 season.
