If you haven’t already, it’s probably time to invest in Josiah Hartshorn stock.

The Cubs’ No. 7 prospect has absolutely crushed his way through his first season in the Minor Leagues, and he went deep again Thursday for High-A South Bend in a seven-inning 16-7 loss to Peoria at Four Winds Field. That’s now six home runs in just 15 games at High-A for the 19-year-old.

A switch-hitter, Hartshorn’s homer came from the left side of the plate in the fifth inning, plating two. He took a pitch up in the zone and drove it off the scoreboard in right-center field.

Hartshorn, serving as the first baseman, went 2-for-3 with three RBIs on the day overall. He collected his first hit in the third inning on an RBI single to center field.

In his time at South Bend, Hartshorn has put together a .415/.462/.830 slash line with 23 RBIs to go with his six long balls. After making easy work of Single-A competition to begin his professional career, the 19-year-old has an overall .313/.434/.563 line across the two levels, including 11 home runs and 48 RBIs in 54 games.

The Cubs selected Hartshorn in the sixth round of the 2025 Draft, but they clearly had an inkling this breakout could come. Chicago signed him with a $2 million bonus -- more than five times greater than the pick’s slot value.
