Kansas City Royals Foundation Sponsors Free Memorial Day Weekend Admission to Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum

The Kansas City Royals Foundation will sponsor free admission to the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum during Memorial Day Weekend in honor of America’s 250th birthday.

The $12,500 gift to the Truman Library Institute will make complimentary admission possible, allowing visitors to experience one of the nation’s most important presidential museums at no cost while also supporting the Institute’s mission to expand access to civic education and public history.

“President Truman wanted his library to be a source of education about leadership and democracy, and the Royals are proud to help that mission reach more in our community,” Royals Chairman/CEO and past chairman of the Truman Library Institute John Sherman said. “His legacy is a critical piece of American history, and particularly relevant here in his home region, and now as we celebrate an important anniversary for our country.”

Memorial Day weekend will also be the final opportunity to experience the museum’s special exhibition, “Opening the Vault: The Story of Us,” which offers a rare look at original historical documents and artifacts, many of which have never been displayed outside of Washington, D.C..

The exhibit, on loan from the National Archives and Records Administration, celebrates America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Featured artifacts include the Louisiana Purchase, the Missouri Compromise, the North Atlantic Treaty, the Manhattan Project Notebook and other foundational pieces of American history.

“The Kansas City Royals Foundation’s generous support of free admission over Memorial Day weekend reflects the very best of civic partnership—opening the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum’s doors for families, students, veterans and visitors from across our region,” said Alex Burden, Executive Director of the Truman Library Institute. “We are incredibly grateful for their investment, which will make it possible for members of our community to connect with President Harry S. Truman’s legacy, our shared American story and this once-in-a-generation display of historic documents.”

The museum will be open Friday, Saturday, and Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
