PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks are rolling.
Trailing by a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on Tuesday, they rallied for a 5-3 win over the Giants with Ketel Marte delivering the walk-off three-run homer to clinch it and give Arizona its fourth win in its last five games.
The Diamondbacks struck first in the game, scoring a run in the first inning before the Giants responded with a three-run outburst in the second, thanks to back-to-back solo homers from Rafael Devers and Willy Adames and an RBI double by Daniel Susac.
That was all the offense either team would muster until the ninth, as San Francisco's Landen Roupp and Arizona's Ryne Nelson settled in for six-plus and seven innings, respectively.
The Diamondbacks did have their chances, particularly in the seventh and eighth, when somehow the Giants wiggled out of bases-loaded jams thanks to a pair of inning-ending double plays.
Ildemaro Vargas led off the ninth with a soft single to right and advanced to second on defensive indifference two outs later. Adrian Del Castillo then delivered a single to center to pull the Diamondbacks to within 3-2.
Jose Fernandez pinch-ran for Del Castillo and advanced to second when Ryan Waldschmidt reached first on a catcher’s interference call.
The Giants then brought in left-hander Matt Gage to face Marte, who hit the second pitch he saw for the homer.
