BOSTON – Roman Anthony is back and ready to make up for lost time. So, too, is Trevor Story.
Story sent everyone home with a rocket single to the warning track in center off Cooper Criswell to deliver the Red Sox a thrilling 9-8 walk-off win in 10 innings.
Three outs from a Red Sox defeat, Anthony, in his second game back from a near four-month stint on the injured list, led off the bottom of the ninth with a triple to center that Julio Rodríguez aggressively sold out for, only to have it pass him and go all the way to the wall.
With one out, Ceddanne Rafaela hit a fly ball to medium depth in left, and interim third-base coach Chad Epperson sent Anthony home, where he made a tremendous slide to tie the game.
It was Story, also in his second game back from a prolonged stint on the injured list, who made the comeback possible when he lofted a two-run double off the Green Monster in the bottom of the eighth that slimmed a three-run lead to one.
After losing three out of four to the Yankees over the weekend, it was an important comeback win for the Red Sox to start a brief three-game homestand.
