Dolphins QB's first pitch compared to Mahomes -- and not in a good way!
Malik Willis' first pitch before the Marlins hosted the Phillies on Friday was just a bit outside. But fear not, Dolphins fans: Your new quarterback is in excellent company with his errant toss.

Willis, who signed a three-year deal with Miami in the offseason, fired his first pitch far outside infielder Graham Pauley's reach, as the ball sailed directly to the backstop. As Dolphins fans freaked out about their new QB1's errant toss, Willis sheepishly explained, "I slipped," in a comment on the Marlins' Instagram post featuring the throw.
Former NFL player Darius Butler, a South Florida native, took to social media to defend Willis by comparing his throw to one very similar first pitch by Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes -- who, of course, is a three-time Super Bowl MVP and among the greatest signal callers to ever play.
Mahomes responded by joking, "Chill chill chill. Thought we deleted all footage of this," and implored that fans post another first pitch he threw in 2018 before a Yankees-Royals game. Indeed, Mahomes burned that one in just off the plate, befitting of someone whose dad was a Major League pitcher and who has demonstrated some serious baseball chops himself.

Ultimately, what does this mean for Willis? Well, probably not much. But if your off-target first pitch is going to draw comparisons to anyone, it's unequivocally better to have it be one of the all-time best quarterbacks than say ... 50 Cent.
