Emerson headlines NRI prospect brigade headed to Mariners camp

SEATTLE -- When MLB Pipeline unveiled its Top 100 Prospects entering the 2026 season last week, the Mariners paced the sport with seven among that group.

And each of them will be in big league camp when the Mariners begin Spring Training next month.

The club on Friday announced its list of non-roster invitees for 2026. It features 34 players and is headlined by the standouts of the Mariners' farm system, which Pipeline most recently ranked No. 2 in the Majors.

That group includes:

No. 9: Colt Emerson, SS
No. 21: Kade Anderson, LHP
No. 33: Ryan Sloan, RHP
No. 43: Lazaro Montes, OF
No. 67: Michael Arroyo, 2B
No. 78: Jonny Farmelo, OF
No. 91: Jurrangelo Cijntje, SHP

The big name among this group is obviously Emerson, who is expected to be one of the leading storylines all camp given that the club has hinted that the 20-year-old could play his way onto the Opening Day roster. Seattle’s first-round pick (22nd overall) in the 2023 MLB Draft has come up mostly as a shortstop, but he’s expected to be in the mix at second and third base this spring.

Anderson (the No. 3 overall pick in last year’s Draft) and Cijntje (the ambidextrous pitcher whom the club took 15th overall in 2024) are also closer to Major League proximity given their more extended seasoning in college. However, they’re not expected to be in the mix right away.

Beyond the prospects, there will be a blend of upper-level Minor Leaguers and players with Major League experience -- and this list could expand before the first wave of players arrives in Arizona on Feb. 6. With the World Baseball Classic on the horizon, and the possibility of the Mariners having many players leaving to take part in the marquee event, they could need even more reinforcements for Cactus League play.

Right-hander Dane Dunning could be an intriguing bounceback candidate, having been a key contributor to the Rangers’ 2023 World Series title before experiencing a dropoff with Texas and Atlanta in the two seasons since. He signed a Minors deal on Jan. 22. Infielder Patrick Wisdom, who hit 76 homers with a 109 OPS+ (league average is 100) from 2021-23 with the Cubs, is another name to watch. He also signed a Minor League deal on Jan. 20 after spending last season playing in Korea.
