Triple-A pitcher hurls a no-hitter. But wait, there's more (or less)

Minor League Baseball is a wonderland of great performances and strange moments, and if you need any proof, look no further than the Marlins' Triple-A affiliate on Tuesday.
The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp threw a no-hitter ... and lost a game that featured more combined errors (three) than runs (two) or hits (one).
It's strange but true. Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett continued his tear through Triple-A, not surrendering a hit across eight innings as the Jumbo Shrimp fell to the Stripers, 2-0, at Gwinnett Field.
This dominant outing might be enough to earn his team a win most nights, but Garrett and the Jumbo Shrimp faced a strong Stripers staff led by rehabbing All-Star righty Spencer Strider.
Strider struck out eight batters while allowing one hit and one walk across 4 1/3 scoreless innings. Relievers Victor Mederos, Javy Guerra and Rolddy Muñoz (ATL No. 18) did not give up a hit the rest of the way while combining to strike out five and walk one.

Garrett cruised through eight frames on 98 pitches, with the only damage coming in the sixth. After hitting the first two batters of the frame, he threw a wild pitch and was late to cover home, so Brewer Hicklen (Braves) scored from second. Then the 28-year-old made a throwing error on a pickoff attempt at second, and Jim Jarvis later crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly.
But outside of that shaky inning, Garrett was unhittable yet again with six strikeouts and 17 swings-and-misses. He hasn't given up a base knock in 16 innings and has allowed just four hits in 23 1/3 frames all season.

The former Vanderbilt commit and 2016 first-rounder was one of the Marlins' top pitchers in 2022 and '23, but injuries limited him to seven starts in '24 before he underwent Tommy John surgery at the end of the year, sidelining him for all of last season. He was in competition for a rotation spot this spring before Miami optioned him to Triple-A.
Now back to full health, Garrett is starting to look like his old dominant self. The one earned run he allowed Tuesday raised his ERA to a sparkling 0.77.
It may have been a tough-luck loss for Garrett and Jacksonville, but it will go down in history as the club's third no-hitter in the Jumbo Shrimp era (2017-present) and the first since June 27, 2025, when Anderson Pilar, Matt Pushard, Christian Roa and George Soriano combined for the feat. Devin Smeltzer had the club's last solo no-hitter over seven innings on Sept. 1, 2023.
