Marlins team up for Surprise & Drive initiative

MIAMI -- The Thanksgiving holiday may be in the rearview mirror, but the Marlins remain driven by the spirit of giving.
On Monday, the organization announced a program where it will present five South Florida families with new automobiles. The Miami Marlins Surprise & Drive presented by AutoNation launched on Monday, and it will continue each day this week.
The Marlins, AutoNation and NBC6 Miami have teamed up for the initiative.
Throughout the week, Marlins chief executive officer Derek Jeter, Miami players Lewis Brinson, Pablo López and Peter O'Brien, as well as former All-Star catcher Charles Johnson, will surprise families by delivering new vehicles. They will be joined by Kristin Sanchez of NBC6.
The five families were selected by partnering organizations of the Marlins, AutoNation, Guitars Over Guns, Dibia DREAM, Special Olympics Florida - Miami-Dade and The Education Fund.
The stories of the families will air each day this week at 11:30 a.m. ET on NBC6's 6 in the Mix, as well as on the Marlins' social media platforms.
