Fly them to the moon! Marlins get bird's-eye view of rocket launch
Frank Sinatra’s “Theme from New York, New York” might be the anthem played at Yankee Stadium, but the Marlins will be humming another iconic tune by Ol’ Blue Eyes this weekend because of a once-in-a-lifetime view.
After Sandy Alcantara tossed the fifth shutout of his career on Wednesday afternoon at loanDepot park, the Marlins flew out of Miami headed to the Big Apple for a three-game series against the Yankees, beginning on Friday.
It just so happens that NASA’s Artemis II launch, which sent up four astronauts from the Kennedy Space Center on Florida’s Space Coast, was visible from the right side of the Marlins’ charter flight.
In a video posted on Instagram story by Marlins.TV reporter Kelly Saco, the pilot can be heard pointing out the rocket to the oohs and ahs of those on the plane.
The Artemis II mission will last for 10 days, and will be the first crewed lunar flyby in more than 50 years.
Cue up "Fly Me to the Moon."
