"There were just so many moments in college where he fired up the team with a big hit or a big home run."
That's Reds ace Chase Burns talking about his former college teammate and current Nationals No. 4 prospect Seaver King. The shortstop certainly fired up Triple-A Rochester with some early power on Saturday.
The No. 74 prospect in MLB led off for the Red Wings, attacked the third pitch he saw from Yankees rehabbing left-hander Carlos Rodón and sent it a Statcast-projected 403 feet to center field for a home run. King reached base four times in Rochester's 9-0 victory over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at PNC Field. He singled, walked twice and scored three times.
The home run was King's first since returning from a left oblique strain that sidelined him for nearly all of July. In his first seven games after the injury, King has seven hits (three for extra bases) in 26 at-bats (.269 average), eight runs scored and an equal number of strikeouts and walks (six).
For the season, the No. 10 pick in the 2024 Draft owns a .303/.389/.500 slash line across 75 games split almost evenly between Double-A and Triple-A. King has 11 homers, 32 extra-base hits and nine stolen bases. His .889 OPS ranks third among all Nats prospects.
