After tough loss vs. WS champs, McLean gears up to face Marlins

NEW YORK -- Nolan McLean will return to the mound Thursday for his 22nd start of the season against the Marlins, carrying a 7-7 record and a 3.32 ERA into that game at Citi Field. He’ll be looking to bounce back from a loss to the Dodgers.
Last start: Although only two of the four runs McLean allowed against the Dodgers were earned, he allowed nine baserunners in six innings -- his highest total in a month and a half. Left-handed hitters Freddie Freeman and Kyle Tucker fared well against McLean, rapping out two hits and clubbing a solo homer, respectively.
Stat to know: McLean has allowed 11 unearned runs this season, the most in the National League. Only Will Warren of the Yankees has more, with 12.
What he said: “They were aggressive, especially at spin, it seemed like. But they did a good job handling sinkers as well, which makes it tough when they’re on everything. I didn’t feel like they were hitting the ball crazy well, but they were finding a lot of holes, which was pretty unfortunate. They did a good job staying on spin.”
Next opponent: McLean held the Marlins to one run over five innings on May 31 in his only prior career meeting with them. Owen Caissie, who is currently on the injured list, had the only two hits off McLean that day.
