BALTIMORE -- Chris Tillman has been dealing with some right shoulder discomfort, and following the Orioles' 5-3 loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday, he was scratched from Wednesday's series finale vs. Boston.
Tillman, who is 15-4 with a 3.46 ERA, will now start on Saturday with Dylan Bundy starting Wednesday.
"I saw it on the report a day or so ago," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said of when the issue with Tillman first cropped up. "[Trainer] Richie [Bancells] and I were talking about it on the plane a little bit and tonight. [I] wanted to see how he felt today. It's better. He's getting there. We have the luxury of giving him the extra time and we're going to do it."
Tillman, the Orioles' Opening Day starter, will get the benefit of Monday's off-day while the rest of the rotation, except for Tuesday starter Yovani Gallardo, goes in turn.
"A little shoulder discomfort," Showalter said. "Just didn't like the description, talking to Richie and Tilly and [bullpen coach] Dom [Chiti] and [pitching coach Dave Wallace]. Stay on the safe side with the off-day and keep everybody else in turn."
