Alonso, Carroll nab Player of the Week honors
Winning Player of the Week honors is a big deal for all big leaguers, but it's quickly becoming old hat for this weeks winner's -- Orioles first baseman Pete Alonso and D-backs right fielder Corbin Carroll.

This is the sixth career Player of the Week Award for Alonso, and his first with the O's. The Polar Bear went on a heater last week, collecting hits in all six games he played while going 12-for-22 (.545) with a double, two homers and five RBIs. This included a two-hit night Friday when he batted leadoff for the first time as a professional ... or amateur.
Alonso is the only player to have won a weekly award in each of the past five seasons. He's the first Orioles player to win the award since Gunnar Henderson on Sept. 9, 2024.

Carroll, who won NL Player of the Week honors in both 2023 and '25, picked up the hat trick after also hitting safely in each of the six games he played last week, including a trio of multihit games. He finished the week 9-for-22 (.409) with three doubles, two triples, two homers and a steal.
The two triples give Carroll an MLB-best 15 for the season -- no one else has more than seven, and he's essentially a lock to lead the NL in three-baggers for the fourth straight full season to begin his career. Carroll is the third D-backs player to win the award this season, joining Ildemaro Vargas (April 27) and Ketel Marte (May 26).

Royals speedster Tyler Tolbert showed off his wheels in center field on Saturday, diving after a long run to make a spectacular grab that robbed the Angels' Denzer Guzman of extra bases to lead off the seventh in a scoreless game.
This is the first Play of the Week honor for Tolbert and the first by a Royals player since Carter Jensen won on June 1.
