KANSAS CITY -- Geraldo Perdomo woke up feeling good, and was ready to labor on Labor Day.
The Diamondbacks’ shortstop endured a scary moment during Sunday's 3-2 win over the Astros, when he exited with a head contusion after being hit in the helmet on a line drive off the bat of Ketel Marte in the third inning.
But after a bit of initial pressure and dizziness, Perdomo knew he had escaped significant injury. Thus, Perdomo was back in the Arizona lineup Monday as the Diamondbacks opened a three-game series in Kansas City.
“I feel OK,” Perdomo said. “I was ready to keep playing [Sunday], but they wanted to make sure.”
Manager Torey Lovullo visited later with Perdomo, and the shortstop said Lovullo’s reaction was, “The ball was looking for me. It followed me.” Perdomo added that he saw the ball off the bat, but could do nothing except go down.
“He never entered the [concussion] protocol,” Lovullo said. “He was just being monitored. I did the lineup [Sunday night], and would have changed it if we needed to.”
