The Mets got more than a fantastic name when Gary Gill Hill was acquired in the deal that sent Freddy Peralta to the Rays at the Trade Deadline. There's a devastating four-pitch mix that is fun to dream on.
The Mets’ No. 19 prospect made a good first impression on his new organization with five shutout innings in Double-A Binghamton’s franchise-record-breaking 23-3 rout of Hartford on Thursday at Mirabito Stadium. Gill Hill allowed just three hits and two walks, striking out four and generating eight swings-and-misses.
Gill Hill features a fastball, a cutter, a slider and a changeup with 60-grade control. The 22-year-old returned to New York for the next phase of his development after playing high school ball in Westchester County.
Gill Hill has already showed a real ability to make improvements in short order in his professional journey. He tallied a 5.49 ERA in 41 innings in his first full season in 2023 between the Rookie-level Florida Complex League and Single-A Carolina. Gill Hill lowered the ERA substantially to 3.15 over 108 2/3 innings in his Single-A return in 2024.
After another solid season in 2025 with High-A Bowling Green, Gill Hill battled to a 4.49 ERA over 20 starts between Bowling Green and Double-A Montgomery in which he struck out 87 over 108 1/3 innings. As New York maps out its future pitching plans, Gill Hill presents a profile that will compete in the zone and limit free passes.
The Rumble Ponies gave Gill Hill a month’s worth of run support in a club-record night for the bats in his debut. Binghamton’s lineup tallied 21 hits, including five from Mitch Voit out of the leadoff spot. The career night for the Mets’ No. 6 prospect, which included five runs scored and two RBIs, highlights his red-hot run through five games in August in which he has hit .700 (14-for-20) with 22 total bases.
