ARLINGTON -- The Rangers on Monday placed pitcher Tyson Ross on the disabled list with a blister on his right index finger and recalled catcher Brett Nicholas from Triple-A Round Rock.
Texas needed the extra catcher because Robinson Chirinos is dealing with a sprained left ankle. The Rangers are not ready to put him on the disabled list, but he is doubtful for Monday's game against the Marlins.
Ross developed the blister during Sunday's start against Miami. Texas is off on Thursday, so it won't need a fifth starter until Aug. 1 against Seattle. Ross is not eligible to come off until Aug. 3.
