MIAMI -- Mallex Smith exited the Rays' 9-6 win over the Marlins Tuesday night in the middle of the fourth inning after he missed a sign from third-base coach Matt Quatraro.
Smith singled in the top of the fourth, and he got forced out at second on an inning-ending double-play. The speedy outfielder did not slide and slowed halfway between first and second base.
Johnny Field replaced Smith in right field.
