Rays activate Bourjos, send Faria to Durham

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays activated outfielder Peter Bourjos from the disabled list prior to Thursday's series finale against the White Sox. He appeared in the lineup, batting ninth and playing left field.
In a corresponding move, the team sent pitcher Jake Faria back to Triple-A Durham a night after winning his Major League debut.
Bourjos went on the DL on May 29 with a right elbow injury described by the team as tennis elbow. He played in three rehab games with Class A Advanced Charlotte this week before he was activated in the series finale against the White Sox.
"He hit a home run the other night [and] had a day off yesterday," manager Kevin Cash said. "We're excited to have him back against a lefty in [Derek] Holland tonight."
Faria pitched 6 1/3 innings, and allowed one run while striking out five to get the win Wednesday.
Worth noting
• Brad Miller had an MRI Thursday after going on the DL a day earlier. Cash said most of the MRI came back negative, but "they saw a little strain in the hip area that he has said was bothering him." There is no timetable on his return as of this moment.
• Matt Duffy's slow progress toward a return from heel surgery is a point of concern for the team. "His only setback was when he fouled the ball off his toe," Cash said. "He's just not feeling right for whatever reason, I don't think anybody can pinpoint it."
