DETROIT -- Four Red Sox players -- starter Steven Wright, left fielder Chris Young, reliever Koji Uehara and catcher Ryan Hanigan -- have all been placed on the 15-day disabled list since the beginning of August.
All four of them are nearing their returns. Wright (right shoulder strain) will throw a bullpen session Sunday and expects to throw another Tuesday, though manager John Farrell said before Saturday's 3-2 win over the Tigers that the team will decide whether he will need another one after Sunday's session.
"I've got to tell myself to not overdo it," Wright said. "Because I didn't throw off the mound for two weeks. I don't want to push it too much, but I still want to push it. It's a matter of getting the timing and rhythm back, and I think that's why we're going off the mound [Sunday]."
Farrell said Saturday that Young (hamstring) could rejoin the Red Sox as early as Monday. He has been on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Pawtucket since Aug. 11.
Hanigan (ankle) will join the team in St. Petersburg early next week and resume baseball activities, but he will need a rehab assignment at Pawtucket before rejoining the team.
Uehara (right pectoral) threw long toss Friday, but has not moved to throwing off the mound. He is expected to be back in early or mid-September.
