Reds-Royals postponed; twin bill Wednesday

CINCINNATI -- Idle since Friday when a player tested positive for COVID-19, the Reds will have to wait a little longer before they can resume playing.

Major League Baseball announced that Tuesday’s two-game series opener vs. the Royals at Kauffman Stadium has been postponed “out of an abundance of caution and to allow for additional testing.”

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader that begins at 5:05 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Cincinnati will start Luis Castillo in Game 1 and Trevor Bauer in Game 2.

Reds players and staff departed for Kansas City on Tuesday morning and worked out at the ballpark in the early evening.

Under new rules instituted earlier this month, both games of the doubleheader will be seven innings.

The Reds had games postponed vs. the Pirates on Saturday and Sunday so additional testing and contact tracing could be performed. On Friday during the ninth inning, the team learned that one of its players tested positive for coronavirus.

A date has not been announced for the rescheduled games vs. Pittsburgh.
