Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski brought his own unique flourish to the ceremonial first pitch before the Red Sox’s annual Patriots' Day matchup on Monday against the Guardians, much to the delight of the Fenway faithful.

Gronkowski, who served as the marshal for the Boston Marathon on Monday morning, never actually threw the ball to the catcher, instead opting to spike the ball emphatically on the mound.

The Gronk Spike, of course, was Gronkowski’s signature touchdown celebration during an NFL career that spanned from 2010-21 and included nine seasons with the Patriots.
