How legit is Holliday's power? His latest homer clears a bus!

Ethan Holliday spent the spring of 2025 as MLB’s No. 1 Draft prospect, a premier talent with prodigious power. Fast-forward a year later and he's now the Rockies’ No. 1 prospect, getting to put that light-tower pop on display against pro pitching.

Holliday crushed his second homer of the year in Single-A Fresno's 10-3 win over Rancho Cucamonga on Friday night, a left-on-left three-run shot that came off the bat at 108 mph and traveled 444 feet, per the Trackman at Chukchansi Park.

Facing southpaw Nicolo Pinazzi (Angels), the 19-year-old worked the count even before getting a hanging breaking ball on the sixth pitch of the at-bat. He unleashed a huge cut and connected, sending the ball soaring not only beyond the right-field fence but the bus that was parked beyond it.

It’s been a relatively slow start to 2026 for Holliday, who is hitting .200 with a .679 OPS through 13 games. MLB’s No. 19 prospect was saddled by a minor left groin strain earlier this month, but has reached base safely in six of his past seven games.

Many of the California League ballparks that Holliday has hit in feature cavernous outfields that can make it difficult to tap into home-run power, particularly for hitters who were playing high school baseball a year ago. But his latest wallop is a reminder that his 65 power grade (tied for second-highest in the Minors) is legit.
