HOUSTON -- Lefty starter Kyle Freeland was placed on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation Wednesday after being scratched from his start on Sunday during pregame warmups.
Freeland experienced tightness while throwing on Saturday before his scheduled start the next day in San Diego.
“He was pulled from the start the other day, so we’re going to put him on the IL,” manager Warren Schaeffer said. “We think this is a minor issue. We’re hoping it’s a short stint.”
The lefty said Wednesday he was feeling no soreness.
“There’s inflammation in there, but we won’t know exactly what’s going on until we get the picture or MRI,” Freeland said. “The last couple days it has felt good, I think me taking the steps I did and backing off before the start in San Diego was good.”
Freeland said they were, "taking things day to day right now."
“We’re going to get a picture when we get back to Denver of my shoulder and see what’s going on there and take the proper steps from there,” Freeland said.
Freeland is 1-1 with a 2.30 ERA and 13 strikeouts in three starts this season.
He said there was no timetable for when he would return, but like his manager, he was hopeful it would be a short stint on the injured list.
“Looking at it glass half full, with how I’m feeling, hoping that this is something short that we can get through in a short time and move on from there,” Freeland said.
In a corresponding move, the Rockies activated lefty Jose Quintana off the 15-day injured list. Quintana went on the injured list on April 2, retroactive to March 30, with a right hamstring strain. He was scheduled to start Colorado’s game Wednesday at the Astros.
