Ethan Holliday's power is legit.
Holliday -- the younger brother of Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday and the son of seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday -- showed off his 65-grade power in Friday’s 9-5 loss for Single-A Fresno, launching his first home run of the young season.
MLB Pipeline’s No. 21 overall prospect, and the top prospect in the Rockies’ farm system, hammered an 0-1 fastball off left-hander Corey Braun. The left-on-left shot hit the light pole beyond the right-center field fence, one of the deepest parts of Chuckchansi Park.
Holliday, 19, is just 6-for-29 (.207) to begin his first full professional season. But the impressive home run is the latest reminder of the sort of raw power that the 6-foot-4 left-handed hitter is capable of.
Taken by the Rockies out of Stillwater (Okla.) High School with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2025 Draft, Holliday first played in the Arizona Bridge League last season before making the leap to affiliate ball. He slashed .239/.357/.380 in 18 games with Fresno.
Holliday also shined in this year’s Spring Breakout game, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs while donning the No. 2 jersey long worn by one of the franchise’s great shortstops, Troy Tulowitzki.
