Sean Matson made his mom proud in more ways than one in Friday’s outing for Double-A Akron.
The right-hander tossed the final two innings of Game 1 of a doubleheader, earning his second save of the season in a 3-1 victory over Richmond at 7 17 Credit Union Park. Matson allowed one earned run and one walk in two innings, while he struck out three.
Matson went to work on the mound with a special message for his mom, Jill, written on his cleats: “Happy B-Day Momma!! Love you!!”

Before Sean began his professional baseball journey as a ninth-round pick in the 2024 Draft out of Harvard, Jill played college softball at Yale from 1988 to 1992.
