Wrist injury keeps Anthony out of series finale in Detroit

DETROIT -- Roman Anthony experienced incremental progress with the right wrist he sprained on Monday night against the Tigers, but the team is still unsure when he will be able to return to the lineup.
“He feels a little better today, which is good, but nothing new to report,” said Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy. “We'll know more going in tomorrow when we get back home and see him and see how he's feeling, and that will give us a better idea.”
It sounds like Thursday’s opener of a four-game series against the Rays at Fenway Park would be a reach for Anthony to be back in the lineup.
“I would think that’s probable [he won’t be ready Thursday], but you never know,” said Tracy. If some of the scans come in clean but there’s soreness, it’s going to be mostly a case of ‘let’s see how he feels.' But I guess you can't rule out if he comes in and says it feels great, but we just won't know until we track it.“
Also, while the Sox are hopeful Anthony doesn’t land on the 10-day IL -- a move they could make retroactive to May 5 -- it hasn’t been ruled out.

“I think we're gonna evaluate it as we go,” said Tracy. “We definitely are aware of when you can retro things or whatnot. So I'm not committing to that at all. Also, he could feel great. It's really hard to say with him until we kind of see how much it feels day to day. So we’ve just got to check on him.”
Masataka Yoshida got a rare start for the Sox at DH on Wednesday in Detroit, subbing in for Anthony.
Anthony, who dealt with back issues a couple of weeks ago, has played in 30 of Boston’s first 37 games. In 109 at-bats, he has a batting line of .229/.354/.321 with one homer and five RBIs. However, he had been showing improved results in the days leading up to the wrist injury.
