Royals social media aids ASG support for Dozier

CLEVELAND -- The Royals’ social media department and the club's players began the push on Monday to get third baseman Hunter Dozier voted in as a starter in the All-Star Game.

Dozier, who was voted by the fans as an American League finalist at third base, started receiving votes again in the Starters Election portion of the Google MLB All-Star Ballot on Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT over a 28-hour period in hopes of becoming a starter for the 2019 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard. All-Star Game starters will be announced at 6 p.m. CT tonight on ESPN, and pitchers and reserves are being named on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. ET, also on ESPN.

Dozier’s breakout season -- .305 average with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs -- has caught attention all over baseball, starting in the Royals’ clubhouse. Dozier made a sparkling defensive play to send Monday's game against the Indians to extra innings, but Jason Kipnis homered in the 10th to hand the Royals a 3-2 loss at Progressive Field.

“That guy is so deserving,” teammate Danny Duffy said. “I hope the fans really get out and support him.”

Several Royals took to Twitter to show their support:

Even former players got into it, including Royals Hall of Famer Bret Saberhagen:

And, of course, Royals social media continued to bring it:
