Infante inching closer to debuting in the field

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Royals infielder Omar Infante continues to make progress and is on track to play the field in a Cactus League game for the first time later this week.
Infante, who had surgery to shave down a bone spur in his right elbow during the offseason, went 0-for-4 in his Cactus League debut as a designated hitter against the Cubs on Monday. He will DH again in a split-squad game Wednesday and could play defense in a game in "the next couple of days," Royals manager Ned Yost said.

"We'll see how he gets through [Tuesday]," Yost said. "We are going day by day. He got through yesterday all right. We'll see how he feels today and re-evaluate day by day. He's getting close."
Infante, 34, is competing with Christian Colon for the starting job at second base. Colon is hitless in his first 11 at-bats entering Tuesday's game against the Rockies.
"I'm progressing little by little, but I'm getting there," Infante said. "I'll be at 100 percent soon."
