Kendry Chourio has been dealing for Single-A Columbia this season.
The Royals’ No. 2 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 77 overall, Chourio turned in 5 1/3 scoreless innings on Tuesday in a 3-1 win over Fayetteville at Segra Stadium. The stellar outing lowered his season ERA to 1.46.
Chourio allowed just one hit Tuesday -- a bunt single in the fifth inning -- while striking out five and walking one. The 18-year-old righty tossed 52 strikes on 80 pitches, generating 13 swings and misses while running his fastball up to 98 mph.
Chourio dealt with little trouble while on the bump, seeing just one runner reach second base. He showed some stamina, too, striking out the final batter he faced.
A 2025 signee out of Venezuela, Chourio is the youngest pitcher in all of Single-A. That hasn’t stopped him from dominating, as he would stand second in the Carolina League with his 1.46 ERA if he had enough innings to qualify. He’s allowed one or no runs in each of his last eight starts after giving up two in his season debut.
