Yost sets plan for newly acquired trio of hurlers

DETROIT -- Royals manager Ned Yost was busy Tuesday coming up with a plan for his new trio of pitching reinforcements -- right-handers Brandon Maurer and Trevor Cahill, and left-hander Ryan Buchter -- who were acquired on Monday from San Diego.
Yost said Cahill will get his first start on Saturday at Fenway Park against the Red Sox. Maurer and Buchter are joining Yost's setup crew to closer Kelvin Herrera.
Maurer and Buchter arrived at Comerica Park during Tuesday's game vs. the Tigers. Cahill was expected to arrive late Tuesday night.
"They give us a lot more depth," Yost said. "I've got several guys now who fill in for Kel if he goes several days in a row."
The Royals, who played Monday night with a 24-man roster, optioned right-hander Jakob Junis to Triple-A Omaha to make room on the 25-man roster for Maurer and Buchter.
The Royals will have to make another roster move sometime Wednesday to make room for Cahill.

Yost said he decided to keep his rotation in the same order, meaning ace left-hander Danny Duffy, who started Tuesday, will not pitch again until Monday in Baltimore. The Royals have an off-day Thursday.
"This time of year as we get close to August," Yost said, "it's OK to give everyone an extra day's rest."
Meanwhile, Royals players were still buzzing about Monday's deal. Royals right-hander Ian Kennedy is friends with Maurer from their time with the Padres and with Cahill from their time with the D-backs.
"We texted back and forth last night," Kennedy said. "They're pretty excited. They're pretty quiet guys, but they'll fit right in. And they got good stuff."
Right-hander Jason Hammel is also friends with Cahill from their time with the Cubs last season.
"We're trying to do something special here," Hammel said. "The front office is doing whatever it can that they think will help ... it's a commitment to winning.
